Training and Background

Dr. McMichael received her BS in Biology from Columbia University and her DVM from Cornell. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, a professor & Service Chief of the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Section, director of the Small Animal Blood Bank at the College of Veterinary Medicine and a professor in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at the Carle-Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois. 

Her research interests include: Working Dog Emergency Care, the microbiome, blood transfusions and leukoreduction, oxidative stress in health and disease, pro-thrombotic states and coagulation testing. She has published over 65 peer reviewed articles, numerous book chapters, and two emergency textbooks.
